'Rather Banal' Mixed-Use Box Coming to Kips Bay Corner

New, 1 comment

After almost a decade of stops and starts and shifting plans, it looks like 543 Second Avenue will finally be getting a 12-story, 18-apartment mixed-use building with ground floor retail. YIMBY spotted renderings for the glass box that may come to occupy the site, whose 18 apartments will all roughly be 1,000-square-feet with 92-square-feet of outdoor space. "Though the design is rather banal, the location would be atypical for something that's genuinely appealing," Nikolai Fedak writes pithily of the Kips Bay surrounds.

The relatively small, 18,667-square-foot building is being developed by Shalimar Management and the architect of record is 5D Architecture and Engineering, who appears to have updated early 2000's renderings for the site from ROART. Note the previous firm estimated completion for the site in 2005. Well, that's not a joke.
