Lights! Camera! Action!

Manhattan may be filmed more than any other borough, but Brooklyn is nipping at its heels. Of the 29 television series made in the city last season, half were based in Brooklyn. Compare that with 1/7 in the 2002-2003 season. Besides the fact that it's trendy, there are other bonuses for production companies: costs are cheaper; the range of neighborhoods and architectural styles is suitable for almost any time period; and many staff, from techies to actors, live there. Unsurprisingly, those who aren't benefitting from the fees are pretty pissed about the disruption filming can cause. [NYT]
