Preview Kara Walker's NSFW Sugary Sphinx Inside Domino

Contemporary artist Kara Walker is abandoning her large black paper-cut silhouettes and putting the finishing touches on something a whole lot more 3D for her installation at Williamsburg's decrepit, mid-demolition Domino sugar factory. Though it doesn't open to the public till Saturday, thanks to Gothamist, we know that the centerpiece of the exhibit is a giant sugar-coated Sphinxian beast with some NSFW anatomical details. The 75-foot-long sculpture looms large even in the 30,000-square-foot venue, surrounded by other figures, also made of sugar. (Sense of place, check.) Check out "A Subtlety" through July 6.

Head over to Gothamist for, um, tighter shots of the backside.
