East Village Triplex with Retractable Facade Sells for Over Ask

New, 19 comments

When this triplex condo with a retractable second-story facade that flips open like a garage door was listed for $2.1 million back in March, it seemed like the kind of place that, while very cool in design and execution, would not actually be a particularly desirable place to live in. But it turns out that the apartment was particularly desirable to at least one person, as Philadelphia-based real estate investor Alon Barzilay has snapped it up for $2.355 million, 12 percent over ask. The sale hit public records the week before last, according to PropertyShark, which means that this place went into contract very quickly after it was listed. Former owner and architect Bill Peterson had purchased the space in 2008 for $1.8 million.
