Certifiably Hip 254-Room Pod Hotel Coming to Williamsburg

BD Hotels is premiering their Pod brand in Brooklyn at 626 Driggs Avenue. The new development will be the company's third Pod Hotel in the city; a rapidly expanding brand, considering their first, on East 51st Street, opened in 2007. The new microdwelling hotel will take majority frontage on North 4th Street, shown in the site's new rendering, above. The 71,000-square-foot, five-story hotel will have 254 rooms (it's helpful to keep in mind that average room sizes in the other Pod hotels is about 250-square-feet.)

While the hotel was announced in late January, here's what's going on at the site now, via TRD: CB Developers, Waterbridge Capital and Ironstate Development are currently seeking ground floor retail tenants, and are pandering to restaurants, and home furnishings and fashion stores—just what Williamsburg needs. Garrison Architects have planned a modular design for the site. It seems in the scope of reason that the property will be refreshingly less chichi than nearby The Wythe Hotel, or the crazy, futuristic hotel coming to 55 Wythe Avenue, but less hip? That can't be guaranteed.
