In 2003, Harlem residents fought back the city's efforts to reopen the 135th Street marine transfer station, and now they're trying to turn the unused site into a park or community garden. WE ACT, Community Board 9, and the New York League of Conservation Voters are currently in the drumming up interest phase of the operation, and it appears that they have already drummed up a lot of it, as residents are already suggesting things like an aquaponic farm or an ecological education center.
