BUSHWICK—Photographer Meryl Meisler will be giving a presentation at the Strand Book Store and signing copies of her new book, A Tale of Two Cities: Disco-Era Bushwick, on July 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Meisler's photography captures the Bushwick of the '80s and early '90s, when the area was plagued by crime and poverty, although, in her words, "After I got over the fact that it was desolate—the buildings that you saw, the destruction—I think I was looking for things that were uplifting, to keep me teaching and to keep me joyful."
