The Parks department is stepping up to deal with an issue caused by inconsiderate New Yorkers who were just released from prison a long winter: the copious amounts of both trash strewn about Riverside Park. Two areas around 148th Street have long attracted barbecue-ers and drinkers, who leave in their wake a giant mess. So the city is adding a dozen extra maintenance workers to pick up garbage as well as upping the number of bins and handing out bags to revelers. Future measures could include a mom wagging her finger and saying, "Clean up after yourself!" [NYT; previously]
