Domino Construction Fence Mural; Art Deco Scavenger Hunt

WILLIAMSBURG—Community human rights institution El Puente is holding a Los Sures community painting day on Friday, July 18th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Domino Sugar Factory. Volunteers will collaborate on the execution of a 200-foot-long mural on the factory's construction fence designed by public art collective Los Muralistas de El Puente. The mural with a working title of Past Present Prediction depicts the effect of the Domino Sugar Factory's presence in the neighborhood as well as the historic impact of the sugar trade on South Williamsburg's Los Sures community. ALL OVER—Open House New York in association with the Art Deco Society of New York will be holding an Art Deco scavenger hunt on Saturday, August 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will work alone or in teams to decode over 60 clues which lead to locations of Art Deco buildings across the city. To participate, registered players post photos in front of the Deco landmarks on Instagram. Points will be tallied, prizes will be given, and everyone will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
