Open House New York is hosting another East River boat tour on August 2just one of its upcoming roster of events that take New Yorkers through rarely accessible and architecturally interesting spots around the city. Curbed has two pairs of free tickets (face value: $40 apiece) to give away, but first readers must submit a haiku about their favorite feature of the East River, or anything along its banks, be it waterborne, coastal, land-locked with a view, or otherwise. Send it over to tips@curbed.com by Sunday night; the winners will be contacted on Monday. Bonus points if you send a photo, too. And a hat tip to anyone who alludes to the changes ahead for the waterway and its surrounds.
Some more details about the tour: It departs from Pier 15 along the East River Esplanade on the Saturday and lasts for two hours, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., with staff from WXY Architecture and SHoP Architects serving as guides to how the waterfront is changing. (Think WXY's East River Blueway and SHoP's projects at the Domino sugar factory, Kips Bay, and the South Street Seaport.) Go on, get writing.
