A putrid brown goo has been making its rounds to Gowanus-area drains and toilets. The unidentified matter that smells like "rotten eggs" "poop" and "barf" raises concerns for the Lightstone Group's incoming 700-apartment development at the canal's shore; the complex's drainage system may cause even more severe back-ups in the already sensitive system. Maybe the brown sludge is a real-life version of Ghostbusters' mysterious pink slime, a substance which turned out to be the accumulated bad feelings of the population of New York. Sadly, the city hasn't figured out how to capture the glop just yet. [NYP; previously]
