A Queens resident has just attempted the most daring Citi Bike heist since the Great Lock-Up of 2014. Xianbo Kong, 68, was stopped on Elmhurst Avenue on Thursday following reports of a suspicious character on a bike. Upon closer inspection, police discovered that he was riding a stolen Citi Bike haphazardly painted a splotchy white. The Citi Bike logo is clearly visible, suggesting that Kong just kind of threw some paint on the thing, thought "eh, good enough," and called it a day (least he could have done was gotten rid of the evidence).
He was later charged with criminal possession of stolen property, while officers of the 109th Precinct took to Twitter to gloat.
What happens when you steal a @CitibikeNYC, do a bad job repainting it & ride it around the #109pct ? You get Caught! pic.twitter.com/qLxcOChtKF
