Not-That-Ugly Gene Kaufman Building Finally Getting Built

New, 7 comments

Permits have been filed for the long-stalled project at 341 Canal Street, also known as 11 Greene Street, a Gene Kaufman-designed building has been in the works for the better part of the past decade. Kaufman's original, uglier designs were approved by the Landmarks Commission in 2007, but the project went bankrupt and the LPC approval expired. The second time Kaufman presented his design, the Commission realized the error of their ways and sent him back to the drawing board, where he came up with the current, relatively inoffensive version.

The project is being developed by Thor Equities and will total 65,924 square feet, with 11,263 square feet of commercial space and the rest spread out over 36 residential units. No dates have yet been announced, but construction can't be too far off.
