The foundation of the wacky SHoP-designed towers to rise at 626 First Avenue is nearly complete, with vertical construction beginning imminently. JDS Development, who bought the site from Sheldon Solow last year, secured $390 million in funding for the towers last month. "Basically, we want to build the highest-end rental the city has ever seen," JDS' managing partner Michael Stern told the Journal. Rents across the development's 800-apartments are slated to average more than $80 per square foot. [WSJ; previously]
