Soho Properties chief Sharif el-Gamal, who first made headlines with 2010 plans to open a mosque near the World Trade Center site, has fully taken over a site on Park Place that he will turn into an Islamic museum. He paid $10.7 million and now wholly owns 49-51 Park Place, formerly known as Park51, on which he will erect a three-story museum and prayer space designed by starchitect Jean Nouvel. He's also building a 39-story condo tower next door. [TRD; previously]
