The 13-story dorm that developer Arun Bhatia is building for Marymount Manhattan College at 35 Cooper Square is so far living up to its promise of being a big ol' rectangular thing. An EV Grieve reader snapped a picture of the under-construction dormitory, which looks like it's up around the six story mark, this weekend. The bland tower will transform — really, already has transformed — the Cooper Square corner where the neighbors fought a losing battle to save a historic Bowery row house.
The Kossar + Garry Architects design for the building did not win any rave reviews when it the rendering first surfaced — one commenter called it "gorgeous, the way a flesh eating disease is" — and it will likely hasn't won any more fans with its real life presence.
