The 30-building south-side hospital complex on Ellis Island, where immigrants were once screened for diseases, has been abandoned for 60 years, but thanks to a rehabilitation effort led by nonprofit group Save Ellis Island, the buildings could reopen for tours by the end of the summer. Statue Cruises, which moved its headquarters into the building in May, donated $120,000 to the cause. [Crain's; previously; photo via Scouting NY]
