A 7-story building is coming to the former site of a white brick church and theater at 424 West 55th Street. The lot between Ninth and Tenth avenues is being developed by Arker Companies, who will include an affordable housing component in the 17-apartment building. Ariel Aufgang is the architect of record for the rather small brick building; YIMBY notes that the building falls in the Special Clinton zoning district, which prohibits the development of larger structures. The building will have 9 bicycle parking spots, outdoor space, and a laundry room.
According to Buzz Buzz Home, the site was formerly occupied by a three-story church with a 3,000-square-foot theater. The church, which went on the market for $9.2 million in September 2012, sold to Arker Companies for $8.16 million in 2013.
