More and more New Yorkers are buying solar panels for their homes, which, among other things, can lower Con Ed bills to about $20/month. The utility's data showed that the number of solar installations wihin its fiefdom doubled in 2013 from the year prior, and is on track to double again in 2014. A Staten Island woman with three electricity-hungry daughters says her array cost $36,000, but that she expects to recoup her investment in 2016. (The tax credits help, too.) [WSJ; previously]
