The Real Deal conducted an interview with Soho Properties founder Sharif El Gamal regarding his efforts to develop the properties as 45 and 51 Park Place first into a "controversial" mosque and, more recently, into a tower of condos with a small Islamic cultural center component. "I never backpedaled or shifted from what the dream has always been," he says now. "I did not want to subject my children to [other] … kids saying 'that's the child of the man who backed down.' This [plan] is going to show the excellence of Muslims and the Islamic culture." [TRD; previously]
