Sure, Tribeca is the most expensive neighborhood in New York, but what about the people who aren't multi-billionaires? Artist Susan Rosenberg Jones—who has lived in Building 1 of Independence Plaza North since 1984—began photographing the "original" tenants of the former Mitchell-Lama complex in 2011, focusing on those who moved into the high-rise before the middle-income affordable housing subsidies ended in 2004. The result is a charming, bitter-sweet look at a diverse collection of tenants, most of whom simply can't afford to live in a neighborhood where townhouses are now selling for 100 times the original purchase price.
