'Preservation School' Classes; Nomad's New Virgin Hotel

EAST VILLAGE—The Historic Districts Council, who you may be familiar with from their many contributions to Landmarks Commission public hearings, are hosting a series of classes called "Preservation School," starting next month. The classes include things like "Preservation 101," "Architectural Photography," and "Reading Architectural Drawings," and seem legitimately interesting. It's $10 per class or $60 for all eight. NOMAD—A tipster sent along a shot that shows the progress at the site of the forthcoming Virgin Hotel at 1227 Broadway. Demolition is underway on the main building and the construction shed is rising on the buildings around it. The hotel is being developed by the Lam Group and "will have 489 rooms, three restaurants, banquet space and 100,000 square feet of retail," per the Commercial Observer. [CurbedWire Inbox; previously]
