Last week, a largely-dreaded yet inevitable backhoe arrived at the site of Long Island City's former graffiti haven 5 Pointz, where developer David Wolkhoff will erect two gigantic, lumbering rental towers. Unlike the warehouse which has been attracting artists since 1993, the towers will have some feeble, regulated graffiti space. The backhoe's arrival marks the end of an eragoodbye to 5 Pointz as it's now known.
