Remembrances

The 9/11 memorial plaza will be open to the public on the 13th anniversary of that day's tragic events. From 6 p.m. to midnight on September 11, people wishing to pay their respects and view the dual beams of light that represent the Twin Towers—the Tribute in Light—can do so amid the buildings' footprints, now fountains engraved with victims' names. (Note that the moving museum, which is ticketed and within the plaza, will be closed.) It's the first time that the general population will be able to access what was once Ground Zero during an anniversary, an area that until this spring was harder to enter due to ticketing and security screenings.
