The EPA has reached an agreement with the Lightstone Group, which is developing a 700-unit complex along the banks of the Gowanus Canal, to help clean up that super-polluted waterway. Lightstone will spend $20 million to clean up the toxic soil under its Bond Street site, removing a whole ton of it and testing to find the source of the contamination. It will also construct a bulkhead, a wall along the oft-maligned canal to keep the icky stuff from spreading. Baby steps, folks. [DNAinfo; previously]
