Because the area north of Madison Square Park needs even more expensive apartments, developer J.D. Carlisle has filed permits to build a 53-story, 825-foot-tall residential building on 30th Street between Madison and Fifth avenues. New York YIMBY first spotted the documents, noting that, if approved, this would be the tallest structure between Chambers Street and the Empire State Building. (For some perspective, One Madison, abode of Rupert Murdoch, Tom Brady, and Gisele Bundchen, is about 620 feet tall, while the cantilevered tower planned for 22nd Street will rise 777 feet.) Handel Architects filed the paperwork with the Department of Buildings, which indicates 188 apartments over 370,000 total square feet; there's a small commercial component. J.D. Carlisle has a pretty sizable rental building that recently topped out, just over on Madison between 32nd and 33rd, so perhaps this time, they'll go condo?
