Bernie Madoff's 'Cursed' Penthouse Finally Closes for $14.5M

New, 6 comments

The Upper East Side penthouse once owned by Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff has finally sold, weathering a broker switch, multiple price chops, and a rumored curse.

Toy mogul Al Kahn and his then-wife Patsy bought the penthouse in 2010 for $8 million, just after it suffered a "mysterious fire." They put it back on the market last summer (Patsy told The Post that "[Alfred] was worried about the karma") for $17.25 million, and the two split up shortly thereafter. The apartment went into contract a few months ago and has now officially sold to investor and real estate developer Lawrence Benenson of Benenson Capital Partners for $14.5 million.

Only time will tell whether the curse continues to plague Benenson. Might we suggest a cleansing spell?
