It may be time for the preservation battle to begin in earnest, as Ekstein Development Group has filed an application to demolish the Madison Avenue Baptist Church's historic parish house at 30 East 31st Street, the Commercial Observer reports. Barring a last-minute landmarking (for which a case could be made) the 1906 parish house will make way for a condo development from Ekstein, who bought the building for $15.6 million in June, and partners Pinnacle Real Estate. The project will cost $90 million. The church put the parish house on the market last July citing "exorbitant upkeep cost and the current market condition."
