The Department of City Planning wants to turn a 57-block stretch between the Grand Concourse and Highbridge in the Bronx from a bastion of car repair shops, garages, and storage facilities into a corridor chockablock with residential and retail development. The new neighborhood would be called "Cromwell-Jerome," and would aid in achieving Mayor de Blasio's ambitious goal of adding 200,000 units affordable housing over the next decade. Parks and street safety will also be a priority. [NYDN; official]
