The House That 102,927 Katz's Pastrami Sandwiches Bought

New, 2 comments

The third-generation owner of legendary pastrami purveyor Katz's Deli, also known as Jake Dell, just bought an East Village apartment for $1,899,000 (h/t 6sqft). Though the brokerbabble screams "OVERSIZED," that moniker really only applies to the monster sandwiches Katz's sells. Dell's new home, on the other hand, is a two-bedroom, two-bath with a balcony next to Grace Church, on Broadway between 11th and 12th streets. And, yes, we did the math, and at $18.45 a pop, it would take 102,926.829 of those juicy puppies to fund the purchase.

It so happens the sale hit public record just a few days after the 126-year-old eatery sold its air rights (for probably a heckuva lot of money) so that developer Ben "The Sledgehammer" Shaoul can put up a larger building on East Houston between Orchard and Ludlow.
