It might be just now getting hot out, but the New York City parks departments has ushered in the official End of Summer by draining all over the city's public pools post-Labor Day. The 55 public pools across the city contain — or, rather, contained — 15 million gallons of water, and not a drop of it will be seen again until next summer. If this heat keeps up, the beaches are going to get pretty crowded. [NYT; previously]
