A staff worker told Brooklyn Paper one juicy scoop: that the R train's Manhattan-Brooklyn tunnel, shut down since August 2013, may open... wait for it... early. The $308 million fix-up of the Montague Street Tunnel was a post-Sandy necessity, and work is progressing so speedily that full service might return weeks before the planned completion date of October. Wait, the MTA has a project that might finish ahead of schedule? It doesn't make up for the long-delayed Fulton Center or 7 train extension, but it's something. [Brooklyn Paper; previously]
