The 158-year-old fire watchtower in Harlem's Marcus Garvey Park is officially being restored, according to Untapped Cities. The future of the historically significant structure was up in the air, but after community groups such as the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance and the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association were able to raise funds for a complete restoration, scaffolding was raised around the structure last month, with the dismantling expected to be completed by April 2015. Each piece of the structure will be labeled and sent to a facility by Queens, Nicholson & Galloway, Inc., with Allen Architectual Metals serving as consultants on the restoration project.
