For $35M, A Maisonette With Your Own Fifth Avenue Address

New, 41 comments

Privacy comes at a price, and at the Rosario Candela-designed co-op at 2 East 70th Street, that price is $35 million. The building's maisonette, which has its own private entrance—and address—at 888 Fifth Avenue just hit the market. The current owners, Robert and Janice Burns (he made his riches as a hotelier), purchase the home in 2010 for $13.5 million, and they hired architect Peter Pennoyer to restore and upgrade the space. There's a private marble lobby, a 30-foot entrance gallery, a wood-paneled library, and a "well-appointed gym." Take a look at the old listing and floorplan to see how the place has changed; the Burnses added a lot of closets.
