The Curbed Cup Neighborhood of the Year Is City Island!

New, 10 comments

Long Island City fought hard, but it wasn't enough to beat the clam diggers of City Island. The Bronx enclave bested the hot Queens' neighborhood by 1135 to 989 votes, which means that City Island is the 2014 Curbed Cup Neighborhood of the Year. The finals drummed up quite a bit of discussion, with many City Islanders rallying for their neighborhood, which pushed its way into the Curbed Cup as the no. 16 seed by welcoming its first new residential development in 15 years. But it's clear that City Island won because of a community campaign, not because of new real estate projects, making this the second year in a row that fierce neighborhood pride made the difference. Now that the fake gold trophy is in your hands, City Island, there's only one thing left to do: throw a party.
