The fight for control of Lower Manhattan's North Cove Marina has come to a new impasse: the Battery Park City Authority voted this morning, during "an unusually packed and heated public meeting," to grant oversight to Brookfield Properties, which also is re-making the World Financial Center next door into a new mall. Many folks across the city, from members of the sailing school and club to elected officials, fear that the new operator will favor mega-yachts; they also say the request-for-proposals process was not transparent and mourn the sudden ouster of Michael Fortenbaugh, who has run the marina with no incident for the last two decades.
