A $100 million renovation has kicked off at part of the massive Brooklyn Army Terminal. More than seven acres, or 500,000 square feet, within the complex's building A are being repurposed to serve as offices and space for commercial or light industrial tenants. Challenges include asbestos removal, plus the "floors need new freight and passenger elevators, electric service, life-safety systems, plumbing, heating and windows. Design will begin this year. Construction is to take two years." [NYT; previously]
