Tenant advocates are worried about what the arrest of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver means for their cause. Silver has been "a staunch advocate for tenants," but he's now being investigated on corruption charges and has relinquished his duties. The Republican-controlled state Senate wants to not renew the rent regulation laws when they expire in June. With Silver out, tenant groups are concerned, as they "have been counting on the Assembly to deliver for tenants this year and stop the loss of affordable housing." [WSJ]
