Tribeca Citizen reports that work is set to begin at 187 Franklin Street in Tribeca, better known as the Ed Hardy townhouse for its planned wacky flame-like facade. Designs from architect Jeremy Edmiston first surfaced back in 2010 and got improbably rave reviews from the Landmarks Preservation Commission the following year, with words like "phenomenal," "symphonic," "exciting," "smart," and "delirious" being thrown around. (Edmiston reported on his website that "the building flew through the Landmarks Commission like a recently released raptor.") Since a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Commission lasts for six years, it sounds like that proposal is the one that we're now going to see actualized.
