Big Retail & Affordable Housing Complex Planned For Jamaica

Two adjacent parking lots in Jamaica will likely be transformed into a massive, $85 million mixed-use complex. Queens Courier reports that the sites on 168th Street near 90th Avenue are being eyed for a 160,000-square-foot retail center, 550-car parking garage, and a residential building priced below market rate. Blumenfeld Development Group is partnering with the Greater Jamaica Development Corp., who owns the parking lots.
Blumenfeld has already begun shopping big-box retailers for the larger of the retail sites. The adjacent site, which may be adjoined by a walkway over 168th Street (h/t DNAinfo), will also have retail space, as well as the residential building and parking garage. Before work moves forward the development needs to pass through the city's land use review procedure, so needless to say, work won't begin for a little while. Blumenfeld hopes things will kick off around 2016.
