The much-vaunted "slenderest building in the world" is one step closer to rising from the ground. The Department of Buildings approved the permits for 111 West 57th Street yesterday, which list the skinny skyscraper's height at precisely 1,397 feet. That's the same exact figure as neighbor to the east 432 Park Avenue, currently the tallest residential building in the western hemisphere. Anyway, pretty soon in several years those floorplans for 45 apartments and that SHoP-designed tapering crown can become reality. [NYY; previously]
