Classic Tudor Home in Forest Hills Gardens Wants $3.5M

New, 12 comments

Our semi-regular feature, Monday Mansion, examines the most interesting mega homes on the market in the far reaches of New York. Have a listing in mind that we're missing? Tell us about it. To the outer boroughs we go!

One of New York City's most exclusive real estate enclaves can be found in Queens: In Forest Hills, the English-inspired Forest Hills Gardens development is home to many pretty Tudor-style homes. (It's also a neighborhood where houses appear rarely, and residents have plenty of rules to follow.) But that bucolic atmosphere—and exclusivity—doesn't come cheap. Take, for example, this five-bedroom house at 55 Exeter Street, which is on the market for $3.5 million. Last year, the same home sold for $2.8 million, so its current owners are attempting an ambitious flip—especially considering that it initially listed for $3.5 million in 2014. So what will all that money get you? The lot it's on is large, measuring 14,000 square feet; the house itself has old-world architectural elements—dark wood and arched windows that wouldn't look out of place in a church—and modern updates, including a renovated kitchen and a heated two-car garage, if that's your thing.
