The stodgy American Bible Society building has been on the verge of oblivion since developer AvalonBay acquired the Midtown site for $300 million in February; now, finally, a replacement structure is waiting in the wings. Using schematics sent to them by a tipster, YIMBY created renderings of the 32-story rental, condo, and retail building that will likely rise on the corner of Broadway and 61st Street, just across the street from 15 Central Park West. Because the renderings don't come from the horse's mouth (or, er, computer) itselfin this instance, project architect Skidmore Owings and Merrillthese renderings should be taken with a grain of salt, But they do look the part.
According to YIMBY, the building will have a four-story retail base, topped by 131 studio to four-bedroom rentals on floors five through 22 and 26 two- and three-bedroom condos on floors 23 through 32. In all, the building will rise a respectable, but by no means tall, 417 feet.
