Amid all the skyscrapers going up in Greenpoint right now, one developer is trying to make a less flashier entry into the neighborhood, according to YIMBY. Caspi Development is building a five-story rental at the corner of West and India streets. The building will have close to 18,000 square feet of residential space, and 1,400 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. The residential part includes 25 apartments, five of which are affordable. There will be a total of 13 studios, 10 one-bedrooms, and a pair of two-bedrooms."We're hoping to have an approachable, neighborhood feel compared to big towers in the area," Josh Caspi, who heads Purchase-based Caspi Development, told YIMBY. "We like more low-rise residential buildings."
The modest construction sits a block away from a 39-story megaproject at the intersection of West and Huron Streets that will feature 500 apartments spread out over 463,000 square feet not to mention 3,800 square feet of medical offices and 8,600 square feet of retail on the first floor.
And just a couple of blocks north of that development, Greenpoint Landing has added two new buildings at 30 and 40 stories high, respectively.
Construction on the the comparatively smaller West Streetrental will begin in a couple of weeks and is scheduled to finish in 2017.
