The American Bible Society building will be demolished to make room for a 33-story, 160-unit residential building with a retail area on the lower levels, new permits filed by developer AvalonBay have revealed, according to The Real Deal.
Located at 1865 Broadway, just a couple of blocks north of Columbus Circle, the existing 12-story building will be demolished to make room for 236,000 square feet of residential and condo space and 34,000 square feet of retail.
There will be about 13 to 15 apartments each on floors three through six, seven apartments each on floors eight through 13, a duplex apartment on floors 14 and 15, and two more individual apartments on the same floors. Above the duplex, there will be four apartments each on floors 16 through 24, and three apartments each on floors 25 through 31, according to the permits.
The fourth, sixth and seventh floors of the building will be used as residential amenity space, according to TRD.
SOM was chosen as the architect for the project. AvalonBay purchased the site in February for an astonishing $300 million. Demolition work on the project is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
