Barneys New York, the iconic Upper East Side department store, may soon have more to attract visitors beyond its creative window displays and high-end clothing. The Real Deal reports that Joseph Safra, the Brazilian banking mogul, has filed plans to add a hotel and residences to 660 Madison Avenue, home of the luxury shop.
According to TRD, the plans call for 54 apartments and hotel rooms to be added above the department store, which occupies the lower nine floors of the Madison Avenue building. The tenth through 21st floors would have the new units, which would include four full-floor units, and a duplex on the uppermost floor. Though few details are known right now, given the building and the location, we can probably assume that these will be pretty fancy apartments.
The plans don't call for adding to the 475,000-square-foot building, and the architect of record is listed as Joseph Pell Lombardi.
