Surprise: Second Avenue Subway May Not Open On Time

New, 10 comments

In a completely expected turn of events, the MTA may not finish the first phase of the Second Avenue subway on time after all.

An independent contractor told the MTA on Monday that there's a "moderate risk" that the December 2016 deadline won't be met, the Daily News reports. In an effort to meet the deadline, a crew will work on a new schedule with clearer milestones that will help them reach goals and overcome setbacks like installing communications and power equipment, building entrances on 72nd Street, and directing power to the 86th Street station.

A delayed deadline might mean more concerns about the agency's ability to see through the four-phase project. "We have to deliver Phase 1 by December 31," MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast said. What about the second phase? Forget about it.
