'Lavishly Elegant' 6,000-Sq-Ft Bronx Mansion Wants $2.65M

New, 12 comments

Our semi-regular feature, Monday Mansion, examines the most interesting mega homes on the market in the far reaches of New York. Have a listing in mind that we're missing? Tell us about it. To the outer boroughs we go!

Riverdale, one of New York City's northernmost neighborhoods, is known for its over-the-top, enormous homes, some of which we've covered here in the past. This seven-bedroom (!) mansion on 261st Street is no exception: the listing describes it as "lavishly elegant and naturally light-filled," which makes sense considering its high ceilings and big windows. The house is a massive 6,700-square-feet, with five bathrooms, a garage, and a steel entrance gate joining those aforementioned bedrooms. It's a new construction that's been designed to look old, with several lovely fireplaces and two oak staircases; but there are thoroughly modern details, including a meticulously designed walk-in closet (with plenty of shoe space), and a snazzy kitchen with new appliances and marble counters. The cost: $2.65 million, which seems high until you realize it's only $399 per square foot—far less than what you'd find for a smaller space in Manhattan. (But there is that commute from Riverdale to consider.…)
