Getting the Rockaway boardwalk back in shape post-Sandy has been a struggle, to say the least. First there was the sign with the missing R, and then the Ockaway community had a lot of tweaks and feedback about the redesign that led one official to believe it wouldn't reopen till Memorial Day 2016. Well, this should help: FEMA is about grant the city $480 million "to repair or replace more than 1 million square feet of boardwalk beams." Well, Mr. or Ms. Official, now you'll have to hold on till the projected completion date: Memorial Day 2017. [NYDN; previously]
