The storage facility that caught on fire on the Brooklyn waterfront last week is still smoldering, but already a battle is being waged over the lot's future use. The lot was designated as parkland in the 2005 Williamsburg/Greenpoint waterfront rezoning, but private developers are circling the 11-acre lot like hawks. City Councilman Steve Levin is spearheading a meeting tonight to rally for the lot's future use as parkland. If it goes to developers, the expanse of Bushwick Inlet Park will be nothing but an exercise in urban planning. [Greenpointers; previously; Image via Flickr/Collin Erickson]
